I’ve been on the computer while listening on-and-off to CNN’s Hurricane Irene coverage.
(My cousin and her husband— who went through an earthquake earlier this week in the DC area — reported a tree falling on their apartment roof and ending up between her apartment and a neighbor’s, so I’m checking updates.)
Then, I hear from the TV, “Poppy (Harlow), thanks. We know you’ll be with us all night because you have nowhere to go.” Then, he adds, almost to ensure the viewer she isn’t being abused, a mumbled statement that she — the town? — is in an evacuated area.
Really?! I know ratings are important, but that’s when the Hurricane Irene coverage jumped the shark for me. And the hurricane isn’t even finished with its damage yet.
